Aligned with manufacturers who produce quality fittings, Fusion QLD offers an extensive range of Electrofusion Fittings that are made to AS/NZS 4129 standards with Watermark Certification and are suitable for gas, water, civil, mining and irrigation applications.

Electrofusion welding is a form of resistive implant welding used to join pipes. A fitting with implanted metal coils is placed around two ends of pipes to be joined, and a current is passed through the coils using an Electrofusion Machine. Resistive heating of the coils melts small amounts of the pipe and fitting, and upon solidification, a joint is formed. It is most commonly used to join polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) pipes. Electrofusion welding is the most common welding technique for joining PE pipes.

It is recommended that Fusion Qld’s range of Electrofusion Fittings are welded using our Electrofusion Welding Machines.

Polyethylene (PE) Pipe and Fittings are typically black in colour and are more corrosion resistant and more durable than other products. The PE100 polyethylene resin used in Fusion Qld’s Electrofusion Fittings are pre-compounded, complying with the national and international standards of AS/NZS 4129.

PE Pipe and Fittings has an operating temperature of -40°C and +80°C. For temperatures less than 20°C it is convention to use the 20°C hydrostatic design stress. In applications that dip below freezing, additional care is required to be taken due to the reduction in the impact strength of the PE. When PE pipelines operate at temperatures above 20°C, the pressure ratings (PN) must be revised.

A pipe’s ‘SDR’ refers to the nominal ratio of outside diameter to wall thickness. A pipes ‘PN’ refers to its pressure rating at 20° Celsius (Mpa multiplied by 10). PE pipe is categorized by its size and rating; the higher the PN rating, the thicker the wall. As a result thicker walls allow for higher pressure applications. All PE pipe has the same outer diameter no matter what the rating.

Fusion Qld offers an extensive range of Electrofusion Fittings available in sizes from 20mm – 1200mm from both our Queensland and Victorian locations.
